Wedding Cakes

Aren't weddings lovely? My first foray into the world of wedding cakes happened last year in December, for an ex-neighbor who was hosting a small family wedding at her home. Her only guideline was that the colors be white and blue. On a borrowed fancy-shmancy cake stand from my wonderful friend Melanie, the cake tiers were separated by sugared berries, and thanks to the meticulous use of a level, my usual problem of a lopsided final product was averted.

This was Wedding Cake #2, a favor for dear friends who had a tasteful and simple civil celebration in our backyard. This cake was a team effort. The bride scoured the web for ideas and came up with this classic design. Her mom painstakingly made the little posy, which was quite a challenge as the top tier was only 6" in diameter. Friends who were at home during the decorating process offered advice on the placement of the silver balls (very crucial), and the bride's brother took the lovely photograph. This groom's cake actually took more time to decorate than the actual wedding cake! Our Star Wars crazy 8 year old presented the bride and groom with Lego Star Wars versions of themselves, and the groom made the "Just Married" signs and the Legos "cans" at the back of the car. Although it was intended to be an Aston Martin, we decided that it was definitely more like a Z.
